Deeds rather than words express my concept of the part religion should play in everyday life.
I have long felt that the way to keep children out of trouble is to keep them interested in things. Lecturing to children is no answer to delinquency. Preaching won’t keep youngsters out of trouble, but keeping their minds occupied will.
A good ending is vital to a picture, the single most important element, because it is what the audience takes with them out of the theater.
All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me... You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.
Courage is the main quality of leadership, in my opinion, no matter where it is exercised. Usually it implies some risk — especially in new undertakings.
Every child is born blessed with a vivid imagination. But just as a muscle grows flabby with disuse, so the bright imagination of a child pales in later years if he ceases to exercise it.
Crowded classrooms and half-day sessions are a tragic waste of our greatest national resource — the minds of our children.
Do a good job. You don't have to worry about the money; it will take care of itself. Just do your best work — then try to trump it.
Everyone has been remarkably influenced by a book, or books.
Everyone needs deadlines. Even the beavers. They loaf around all summer, but when they are faced with the winter deadline, they work like fury. If we didn't have deadlines, we'd stagnate.
Ideas come from curiosity.
Inside every sophisticated grownup adult is a little kid just dying to get out.
The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

Ben Franklin quotes
Poor Richard's Almanack
1734
Would you live with ease? Do what you ought, not what you please.
Better slip with foot than tongue. You cannot pluck roses without fear of thorns, Nor enjoy fair wife without danger of horns.
Whate'ers begun in anger ends in shame.
Don't value a man for the Quality he is of, but for the Qualities he possesses.
1735
Be slow in choosing a Friend, slower in changing.
Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
An old young man, will be a young old man.
1737
Well done is better than well said.
1738
Wish not so much to live long as to live well.
Wink at small faults; remember thou hast great ones.
Search others for their virtues, thy self for thy vices.
1739
Food is essential to life, therefore make it good.
Mark Twain quotes
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes time and annoys the pig.
A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.
What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so.
All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure.
Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.
Every generalization is false, including this one.
It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not to deserve them.
Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.
Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear, and the blind can read.
There ain't no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.
When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.
Never let your schooling interfere with your education.
Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt and live like it's heaven on Earth.
Following the Equator:
Noise proves nothing. Often a hen who has merely laid an egg cackles as if she had laid an asteroid.
Let us not be too particular. It is better to have old second-hand diamonds than none at all.
Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.
Make it a point to do something every day that you don't want to do. This is the golden rule for acquiring the habit of doing your duty without pain.
Pudd'n'head Wilson:
Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.
Habit is habit, and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs one step at a time.
Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear — not absence of fear.
A Connecticut Yankee in King Artur's Court:
Many a small thing has been made large by the right kind of advertising.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer:
Work consists of whatever a body is OBLIGED to do, and...Play consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do.

Free and Easy lyrics
Pair of boots and a sack of clothes
Free and easy down the road I go
Hangin' memories on the high line poles
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
Ragweed's rockin' on the radio
Free and easy down the road I go
So I keep rollin' like an old banjo
Free and easy down the road I go
Got the sun shinin' on me like a big spotlight
So I know everything is gonna be alright
Ain't no tellin' where the wind might blow
Free and easy down the road I go
Livin' life like a Sunday stroll
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
If you only get to go around one time
I'm gonna sit back and try to enjoy the ride
I could make a million or wind up broke
Free and easy down the road I go
Can't take it with you when you go so
Free and easy down the road I go
Someday I know it's gonna take me home so
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
Hangin' memories on the high line poles
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
Ragweed's rockin' on the radio
Free and easy down the road I go
So I keep rollin' like an old banjo
Free and easy down the road I go
Got the sun shinin' on me like a big spotlight
So I know everything is gonna be alright
Ain't no tellin' where the wind might blow
Free and easy down the road I go
Livin' life like a Sunday stroll
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
If you only get to go around one time

Free and easy down the road I go
Can't take it with you when you go so
Free and easy down the road I go
Someday I know it's gonna take me home so
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
